There are a lot of different brands of chocolate in the world. There are even different kinds of chocolate; as examples, white, dark, and milk. There are even substantial variations between countries in the preferences for chocolate. In the United States one of the earliest kinds of chocolate was the Hershey's Milk Chocolate candy bar. The chocolate is sweet and smooth, and is perhaps one of the best examples of milk chocolate.

Hershey's Milk Chocolate was born as the dream of Milton Hershey. Hershey believed that chocolate, which was then a luxury of wealthy people, should be accessible to everyone. Hershey made this dream come true by developing a candy bar in 1900 that would survive more than a century, and, even with all the competition in the candy world today, still holds its own. Hershey took his dream to Derry Church, Pennsylvania, to build a factory, which ultimately became an empire. Eventually Derry Church would be renamed Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Hershey's Milk Chocolate has established an enviable record of quality and consistency through the Great Depression and numerous wars. Even in the worst days when materials were short, Hershey's managed to maintain production of one of life's cheapest luxuries. Hershey's Milk Chocolate has spawned a family of candy bars that share the original's heritage. One of the first was 1908's Hershey's with almonds. Another candy bar in the family is one of my favorites, Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate. Other members of the family include Cookies `N' Crème, Limited Edition Double Chocolate, Limited Edition Nut Lovers, and Limited Edition Cookies `N' Chocolate.
